Frequently Asked Questions

What is flintknapping and where do I start?

Welcome! In a nutshell, flintknapping is the process of creating stone points, blades, and other tools. For more info on how to get started, please check out our Flint Knapping Buyer's Guide and our GoKnapping Learning Center Page.

Has my order shipped?

We will send you an order confirmation email to track the order status. Usually within 24-48 hrs, your order will be shipped, and an email sent to you with a link to track your order.

Additionally, you can track the status of your order from your "order history" section on your account page on the website. To see your "order history", you can visit your account by clicking the customer login page

How long will it take to receive my order?

Once you've placed your order, it usually takes 24 to 48 hours to process it for shipping (during regular business hours).

Standard shipping time in transit depends on the shipping method chosen during checkout. This can range between 1-5 days for domestic US orders, and from 1 to 3 weeks for Canada orders. Please note that these are only estimates, and that guaranteed delivery dates are only covered by next day or second day air shipping.
Particularly large orders may take additional processing time. Please Contact Us with any questions or concerns.

Can I change my order?

We can only change orders that have not been processed for shipping yet.

Once your order is under the status "preparing for shipping", "shipping" or "delivered", then we cannot accept any edits to your order.

To make changes to your order, please reach out to us as soon as possible by email at info@goknapping.com or submit a Contact Us form.

Do you ship to countries outside of the United States?

We primarily ship to customers here in the United States, and also customers in Canada. If you are ordering from the United States or Canada, please feel free to order from our website and we will promptly ship your order. Please note, no animal products can be exported outside of the United States.

We currently do not ship outside of the US and Canada due to skyrocketing international shipping costs and complications in transit time and customs clearance.

Why is shipping sometimes expensive?

Many of our items are heavy, and unfortunately this can sometimes lead to costly shipping quotes. Small, lightweight items have more economical options. Our shipping quotes are determined by the actual sum of the weights of each of the items in your order and how far the order will have to travel. This weight, along with the dimensions of the items you have chosen are then ran through the postal systems to get the most accurate shipping quote possible. In most cases we ship USPS when shipping outside of the lower 48 states. If you feel there is an error in how your shipping is calculated by the website, or if you have special shipping considerations, please do not hesitate to Contact Us.

I forgot my account password. How do I retrieve it?

If you forgot your password, you can reset it by clicking on 'Forgot Your Password?' on the customer login page.

What is your return, refund and exchange policy?

Within the first 30 days of your purchase, if you are dissatisfied with your items, you are eligible for a return or exchange as long as it meets the criteria below.

Returns for credit/refund are eligible on domestic orders (within the continental US). All products returned MUST be 100% complete and UNUSED, in original condition and shipped back to us by you, using your shipping method of choice (tracking preferred). 100% of the purchase price of the returned product will be refunded pending inspection and approval. Original shipping charges of the order are unable to be refunded on non-defective, returned items. If an item or items in your order are received damaged or defective, please contact us as soon as possible.

Exchanges may be made for items of the same value or store credit. If you wish to make an exchange for an item of greater value, you will be asked to pay the difference. Exchanges on non defective items will require the customer to pay return delivery and shipping.

Please Contact Us to arrange processing of a return or exchange.

Do you have a print catalog?

No. Currently, we have a 'virtual' catalog of all of our current in-stock and ready to ship products. In order to ensure that our customers have access to the most current selection of items, we do not publish a catalog since it would become out of date very quickly.

Do you have a retail store?

No, we currently do not have a brick and mortar retail 'store' due to lack of local demand. Our rural shop and shipping facility is located near Hattiesburg, MS, about an hour from the gulf coast. If you would like to save on shipping by picking up your order from us in person please email us at info@goknapping.com and we would be happy to arrange a meeting.

How do I contact you?

Our contact information is provided on our Contact Page. The best way to contact us is through email (info@goknapping.com) or by filling out the contact form on the Contact Page. If you would like to speak to someone by phone please include a phone number and the best time to reach you in the email and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Do you offer bulk discount, wholesale, or resale pricing?

We are a direct producer of most of our kits, tools, and other products so we do our best to keep our regular retail price as affordable as possible. There are a select few items that we may be able to offer discounts on if a significant number are being purchased. We will often add this to the description when it applies. Otherwise, at this point we are not taking on any new traditional wholesale distributors/re-sellers. Educators making bulk purchases please feel free to inquire about unlisted items and tailor fit options for your group or class.

Is any of your replica finished weaponry intended for actual use?

No, we do not suggest that anyone use our specimen weaponry in the actual field. We say this because primitive weaponry behaves much differently than modern weaponry and what most of us are used to. Stone bladed knives cannot be dropped on a concrete floor or even in most cases hard packed sand or dirt. Unspined primitive arrows do not have the consistency of carbon and may break and injure the shooter. Animal hide glue is a great adhesive and historically accurate but is not remotely close to being as durable and permanent as modern epoxies on the market today.

However, our weaponry is sharp and are very capable of inflicting fatal injuries to would be aggressors both human and wild animal. PLEASE, store and display all of your primitive weaponry responsibly in suitable locations as too not have any accidents. Remember that stone flakes have the potential to be sharper than anything man has been able to forge. Proper caution is a must.

How young is too young to flint knap and use your other kits?

All of our skill building kits require close adult supervision. In the process of flintknapping, very sharp shards of stone are produced, as well as fine stone dust. Proper hand protection, eye protection, and ventilation are necessities of flintknapping. Flintknapping outdoors is an easy way to avoid breathing excessive silica dust. We generally think that ages 16 and up are OK as long as the student has good common sense and can take directions and instruction well.

Ultimately, it is the sole responsibility of the parent/guardian to make the call on whether a person under their care is attentive enough to handle sharp objects with care and diligence to proper safety. It is very important that anyone flintknapping must pay attention to not cutting themselves and breathing much of the dust produced from the hobby. Please be responsible when using and gifting these kits.
