Georgetown Flint Cleaned Nodules 5-9+ inch
Cleaned of visible waste and checked to be good stone, these mostly-raw large and medium nodules are great for knapping daggers, spear points, knife blades, or spalling down to make multiple points. This material does not require heat treatment. Sold in 10 lb, 20 lb, and 40 lb lots.
Each 10 lb lot will have 3-4 tested nodules per lot. 20 lb lots will have between 4- 8 nodules and we will include a larger piece or two. 40 lb lots will include some even larger nodules with one or two being long/heavy, number of nodules in each lot will vary greatly.
Longer/thinner shapes can be skinned to one large blank, while the wider/thicker nodules can be spalled or slabbed.
As this is raw stone, there will be waste and other imperfections that we cannot see on initial grading. Proper spalling and thinning techniques must be used to reduce into usable spalls. Solid copper is the preferred tool for primary reduction, while thinner spalls can be reduced with copper boppers of appropriate size. Dense Texas material can tear up boppers very quickly.
Georgetown Flint comes from the Cretaceous Austin limestone/Chalk on the eastern edge of the Edwards plateau in the vicinity of Georgetown, Texas. The Georgetown material occurs in a narrow range of grayish colors, of which the steel-blue/grey glassy translucent variant known as "Georgetown Blue" is the highest quality for knapping. In fact it’s probably one of the best quality materials anywhere in North America and is highly sought after. We source our stone from multiple quarries, so we have a variety of what georgetown has to offer at any particular time.
